THE EAST VILLAGE, 1978-1999, photos by Michael Sean Edwards
When I first came to the East Village I lived in a loft on 7th Street just west of Avenue A with a friend of mine and various short term roommates. We had a lot of space. 128 E. 7th Street. It is a condominium now. It was an old industrial building of some kind, not a space designed for living and we had no residential lease. One of my upstairs neighbors in those days was David Byrne, of The Talking Heads. The building had a communal mail box mounted under a slot on the front door and I have a strong memory of sifting through all the postcards from adoring fans addressed to Mr. Byrne looking for my Con Ed bill.Reblog cause EV is home sweet home.
